The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is in search of exceptional candidates to fill the Senior Volunteer Services Coordinator role within the Community Services, specifically the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP).

FGP serves a vital function by offering meaningful volunteer opportunities to income-eligible adults aged 55 and older, while simultaneously addressing critical community needs by supporting children with exceptional requirements.

The Senior Volunteer Services Coordinator (SVSC) will report directly to the FGP Manager and will engage in advanced volunteer services activities.

Key responsibilities encompass overseeing, assessing, and promoting the volunteer program in collaboration with local volunteer stations and community partners; recruiting, matching, and closely supervising Foster Grandparent Volunteers; conducting orientation for new volunteers and facilitating ongoing training sessions; evaluating and monitoring program components for compliance and reporting; and managing bi-monthly payroll submissions.

Work will be conducted with minimal oversight, allowing for significant initiative and independent judgment.

Core Responsibilities:
Maintain regular attendance in accordance with agency policies.

Core Responsibility 1:

Formulate a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy aligned with federal grant stipulations; recruit volunteers in line with this strategy; thoroughly screen and process volunteer applications; conduct interviews, select, and assign Foster Grandparent volunteers; and create job descriptions, agreements, and outline the responsibilities and commitments of volunteers.

Core Responsibility 2:

Supervise the Foster Grandparent Program at various service sites including daycares, independent school districts, and juvenile detention centers; maximize benefits for children and youth through strategic recruitment and matching of Foster Grandparent Volunteers, ensuring close supervision of volunteers.

Establish and secure new agreements with volunteer stations, including renewals and amendments. (20%)

Core Responsibility 3:
Act as project lead and provide administrative oversight and guidance to the FGP Administrative Assistant. Manage necessary records, files, and the program database concerning volunteer schedules, mileage, and stipends.

Analyze and provide information to the FGP Manager and Supervisor as needed for reports, audits, and both internal and external inquiries.

Core Responsibility 4:

Orient and train volunteers according to the FGP Volunteer Services Policy Manual; develop training materials specific to volunteers and aging, making such training available to all volunteers monthly; supervise and assess volunteer performance, providing corrective action as necessary.

Core Responsibility 5:

Advocate for FGP through community engagement initiatives including media outreach, health and senior fairs, and public speaking engagements.

Lead the organization of volunteer recognition and appreciation events throughout the year. (15%)

Core Responsibility 6:
Serve as the primary contact in the absence of the FGP Manager and Supervisor. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with community resources and organizations, as well as community engagement strategies.

Understanding of gerontology or challenges faced by aging adults.

Proficiency in public speaking and delivering effective presentations.

Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively with diverse groups.

Competence in using computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Capability to operate standard office equipment.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Capacity to oversee, train, evaluate, and promote volunteers and the volunteer program.

Ability to interact and communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
