Role: Mechanical Engineer PE

As a Mechanical Engineer PE, you will play a crucial role in providing engineering support across various locations within the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility. Your expertise will guide projects from inception through construction, ensuring compliance and quality throughout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and production support throughout project phases.
  • Manage and execute projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build methodologies.
  • Offer technical mentorship to junior engineers and conduct thorough reviews of their work for compliance and feasibility.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately and provide expertise during negotiations with architectural firms and contractors.
  • Address contractor submissions and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • This is a hybrid position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, particularly in commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD and experience in designing and reviewing mechanical systems.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and ensure code compliance in engineering designs.
  • Skill in estimating design efforts and negotiating with contractors and architectural firms.
  • Capability to produce field progress reports as necessary.
  • Expertise in providing engineering solutions to government requests.
  • Proficient in reviewing contractor submissions and responding to RFIs.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design and applications software for ductwork and piping sizing.
  • Familiarity with the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
