As a Mechanical Engineer PE, you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering support across various sites within the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility, engaging in a range of tasks and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and production support from project initiation through to construction.
  • Manage and execute projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work for compliance with codes and constructability.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately.
  • Provide technical expertise during negotiations with architectural and engineering firms as well as general contractors.
  • Address contractor submittals and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, as well as design development for commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in the following areas:
    • AUTOCAD
    • Design and review of major Air and Water Side and steam mechanical systems.
    • Mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping system sizing.
    • Conducting construction site visits.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers/designers, ensuring compliance and constructability in their work.
  • Competence in estimating design efforts and assisting in negotiations with architectural and engineering firms and contractors.
  • Capability to produce field progress reports as necessary.
  • Skill in providing engineering solutions to problems as requested.
  • Experience in reviewing contractor submittals and responding to RFIs, with strong proficiency in AUTOCAD.
  • Working knowledge of major Air and Water Side and steam mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping systems.
  • Understanding of SpecsIntact and ability to produce and edit specifications for design projects.
  • Experience in designing DDC control systems, including operational sequences, point lists, and control diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
