Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering design and production support from project initiation through to construction.
  • Lead and execute projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers/designers while reviewing the work of other mechanical engineers for compliance with codes and constructability.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately.
  • Deliver technical expertise during negotiations with architectural-engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Address contractor submittals and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, design development, and evaluation of commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in the following:
    • AUTOCAD
    • Design and review of main air and water side and steam mechanical systems.
    • Mechanical applications software for sizing ductwork and piping systems.
    • Conducting construction site visits.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers/designers and review their work for compliance and constructability.
  • Competence in estimating design efforts and assisting in negotiations with architectural engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Capability to produce field progress reports as necessary.
  • Ability to provide engineering solutions to challenges as requested by the government.
  • Experience in reviewing contractor submittals and responding to RFIs, with strong skills in AUTOCAD.
  • Working knowledge of main air and water side and steam mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping system sizing.
  • Understanding of SpecsIntact and ability to produce and edit specifications for design projects.
  • Ability to design DDC control systems, including the creation of sequences of operation, point lists, and control diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
