About You and this Role

Dow is on the lookout for a Senior Metallurgist to become part of our team at our manufacturing facility. In this capacity, you will share responsibility and accountability for plant assets, personnel, and the achievement of business objectives related to the plant. You will also provide influential leadership support to maintenance staff and may act as a liaison to enhance and support other maintenance functions when necessary.

Your internal clients will include engineering services, new construction projects, operational production facilities, maintenance, and utility operations. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a team of highly skilled engineers and technicians to offer technical guidance and recommendations. This position necessitates hands-on fieldwork during investigations of corrosion and mechanical failures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive improvement initiatives in metallurgical and corrosion sectors.
  • Conduct failure analysis, materials selection (primarily metals and alloys), corrosion control, and asset integrity management at large integrated petrochemical facilities, requiring hands-on fieldwork during investigations of corrosion and materials failures.
  • Ensure that materials-related inspections and repairs are performed according to specifications, codes, and Dow Practices.
  • Conduct on-site and/or shop inspections to verify equipment integrity.
  • Collaborate with inspectors and maintenance engineers in troubleshooting and repairing vessels, tanks, and piping to enhance safety and reliability.
  • Provide technical support and guidance related to materials engineering during plant turnarounds and shutdowns, including technical reviews and field assessments.
  • Mentor and train inspection and engineering personnel in materials engineering.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining MET (Most Effective Technology) Documents.
  • Offer technical support to Region, Site, and Plant for metallurgical and corrosion engineering, including troubleshooting and technical analysis.
  • Engage in Technical Solutions Team (TST) activities and leverage best practices.
  • Support EH&S engagement, particularly in field operations and personal safety compliance.
  • Implement and provide ongoing support for the Maintenance Procedure Use Policy at the facility, ensuring compliance among all maintenance personnel.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e., maintenance, engineering, manufacturing, or related fields).
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights, with familiarity or willingness to undergo training in the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, with no visa sponsorship or support available for this position.
Preferred Skills
  • Expertise in materials engineering, corrosion engineering, or metallurgical engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including leading and facilitating team meetings and interacting with project teams, vendors, and inspectors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail essential for maintaining required documentation.
