Nashville, Tennessee, United States Stantec Full time

Establish a strong foundation for a rewarding career in geotechnical engineering by joining a dynamic team. At Stantec, we pride ourselves on being a full-service firm, engaging in projects that span various environments—whether in the office, on-site, or in the laboratory. Our work encompasses a wide range of activities, from field exploration and laboratory testing to the design and management of intricate geotechnical structures.

Your Opportunity

As a Geotechnical Engineer in Training (EIT), you will deliver a broad spectrum of geotechnical services to our clients, guiding projects from initial field investigations through to the design and oversight of complex geotechnical structures. You will engage in specialized tasks such as analyzing and designing foundation systems, dam and levee structures, and seismic remediation strategies.

In this role, you will collaborate on both small and large-scale projects, working closely under the mentorship of senior engineers. Your responsibilities will include a variety of geotechnical engineering tasks in support of transportation, dam, power, and infrastructure initiatives. These tasks may involve calculations, fieldwork, coordination of simpler assignments, and participation in meetings.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of geotechnical field investigations.
  • Conduct fieldwork related to geotechnical explorations and construction activities, with the extent of fieldwork evolving with your experience.
  • Review boring logs and laboratory results.
  • Perform basic calculations and undertake other duties as assigned under the guidance of a project engineer.
  • Support the execution of detailed analyses and evaluations of geotechnical hazards during the design and construction phases of projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of designs, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.
  • Assist multi-disciplinary teams in providing construction services, including submittal reviews and responses to requests for information.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and analytical methods.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in team settings and engage in innovative and critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and related materials.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D, GeoStudio, and gINT.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary to support geotechnical investigations and construction activities.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the FE exam and current EIT status is required.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience; preference for candidates with over 3 years of geotechnical experience.
  • Co-op or internship experience is advantageous.

This position typically involves working in an office environment with extended periods at a desk, as well as fieldwork that may expose you to various weather conditions and require the handling of moderately heavy equipment and soil/rock samples.

Stantec is a collaborative environment where talented individuals come together to leverage each other's strengths, undertake exciting projects, and make a meaningful impact on the world.
