Position Overview
The role of a Student Counsellor at Range 3 encompasses management responsibilities and accountability for delivering professional support services. This position is pivotal in fostering collaboration among staff members and the school community to achieve specific goals related to educational programs and school operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively with the Year Level Team, Executive Team, and staff to provide counselling and therapeutic services to students under the guidance of the Wellbeing Leader.
- Deliver a variety of counselling and therapeutic interventions.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence within classrooms and school grounds.
- Facilitate the smooth transition of new students into the school environment.
- Participate actively in relevant staff meetings, Allied Health team discussions, Student Support Groups, and Engagement and Wellbeing meetings.
- Engage closely with families to develop and implement support plans, ensuring follow-up and reassessment as necessary.
- Provide wellbeing support for the Disability and Inclusion Program, assisting in the creation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where appropriate.
- Promote student wellbeing within the school community through newsletters, bulletins, and noticeboards.
- Collaborate with community service agencies and refer students and families as needed.
- Liaise with all relevant staff members, including the Leadership Team and Year Level Leaders.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans in consultation with students, families, and school-based teams.
- Proactively contribute to the development and implementation of positive mental health initiatives within the school.
- Manage cases by consulting with various stakeholders involved with students and their families.
- Design and lead evidence-based programs that foster resilience and resourcefulness among students, such as Bullying Prevention initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Executive Team.
