Overview:


As a Regional Safety Engineering Specialist, you will report directly to the HUB HSE Manager (North America) and serve as a technical authority and subject matter expert in machine risk evaluation, functional safety for machinery, and safeguarding measures in accordance with industry standards (regional/local) and internal guidelines.

We seek a professional with a comprehensive perspective who appreciates the intricacies involved in change processes and project management.

You will collaborate closely with regional and factory operations teams, actively participating in decision-making to advise and facilitate the implementation of safety-critical controls for industrial machinery capital projects and enhancements.

You will take a leading role in identifying and disseminating transferable practices, assessing, and cultivating local machine safety expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee risk assessment initiatives and risk reduction strategies within the domain of machine safety.

Enhance organizational capabilities by delivering machine safety training and developing technical competencies at local sites.

Direct the deployment strategy and plan for effective cross-functional implementation of relevant internal corporate and consensus standards in machine safety.

Assist in the investigation of incidents (including near misses and recordable injuries) to identify root causes and formulate corrective and preventive action plans.

Support emergency response and containment measures related to machine safety.

Promote continuous improvement of the machine safety process by acting as a regional business partner, engaging site, functional, and business leaders.

Offer technical safety guidance and risk assessments for capital projects concerning machinery, tools, and equipment, collaborating with internal global process and equipment technical experts and key equipment suppliers.

Provide assistance in defining the necessary scope for preventive maintenance plans to be executed on machinery/equipment.
Willingness to travel regionally to support local sites.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (HSE education or similar experience is advantageous).
Candidate must possess work authorization that allows them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.

Familiarity with the requirements pertinent to ANSI Machine Safety, ISO 12100:2010 Safety of machinery - Fundamental concepts, general principles of design.


  • 5 years of regional experience focusing on machine safety process/program management, maintenance, risk assessment, and design.
Experience in reading and designing diagrams for electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Experience in Lean Manufacturing.
A proactive mindset to self-initiate actions and make decisions.
Excellent communication and influencing skills to build trust with individuals at various organizational levels.
A passion for travel and expanding your experience.

Preferred:
Professional certifications (e.g., CMSE, CSP)
Experience with represented workforce.
Ability to operate within and support matrixed leadership and functional teams.
