Critical Care Registered Nurse

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Critical Care Unit, your primary responsibility will be to deliver direct nursing care, closely monitor patient health, implement and oversee patient care plans, administer medications and treatments, and maintain accurate patient records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care in line with established policies and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implement and oversee patient care plans.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions as necessary.
  • Assess and document the effectiveness and timeliness of care and interventions.
  • Review and adjust care plans to ensure the achievement of expected outcomes.
  • Act as the primary coordinator for all disciplines involved in patient care.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing protocols.
  • Execute physician and nursing orders accurately.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess and coordinate discharge planning needs.
  • Evaluate the educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and other special factors.
  • Provide appropriate teaching and educational materials.
  • Confirm and document patient and family understanding of educational content.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth through formal and informal education and clinical practice.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • Completion of a Critical Care Course for acute care settings.
  • Perioperative training or validated on-the-job training for operating room settings.

Certifications Required:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA must be obtained upon hire or within the first year of employment, depending on the service level.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specific unit needs.

Work Environment:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a high-pressure environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum one year of recent acute care RN experience in a hospital setting is required.
  • Consideration will be given to licensed military RN experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion, including lifting and handling patients, manual dexterity, and coordination.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Must be able to work under stress and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids is expected.
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently.

  • Adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
