The University of New Haven is seeking applications and nominations for the role of Chief Athletics Officer (CAO).
The University aims to appoint a CAO who will foster excellence and innovation in athletic management, enhance student engagement, and align athletic programs with the academic mission and values of the institution, promoting the holistic development of each student.
Founded in 1920, the University of New Haven is a distinguished private university recognized for its academic rigor by notable publications.
Situated in a vibrant community, the University serves a diverse population of over 9,800 students from around the world.
In recent years, the University has invested significantly in infrastructure and academic offerings, launching numerous new degree programs and enhancing its facilities.
The University is a proud member of the esteemed Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Division II, with its athletic teams known as the Chargers.
Scope and ResponsibilitiesReporting directly to the President, the Chief Athletics Officer will oversee the comprehensive management of the athletic program.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development, management, and coordination of a competitive NCAA Division II athletics program comprising 20 teams and various spirit and club sports.
- Supervise a dedicated team of over 50 staff members, ensuring the wellbeing and academic success of nearly 500 student-athletes.
- Provide strategic leadership and policy development for the athletics program, ensuring alignment with the University’s mission.
- Collaborate with the Development Office and community stakeholders to secure funding for athletic initiatives and facilities.
- Manage the athletics department budget in accordance with applicable regulations and University policies.
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate coaching and administrative staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA and conference regulations while promoting the athletics department within the University community.
- Represent the University at various events and meetings, serving as the primary spokesperson for the athletics department.
A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in NCAA Division I or II athletics, with a proven track record in leadership and strategic vision.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are essential. A commitment to ethical standards and a background in fundraising and relationship building are highly valued.
