Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Chief of Police or designated personnel, and in accordance with District regulations and the General Orders of the Los Rios Police Department (LRPD), this role involves delivering law enforcement services across District locations. The primary focus is on safeguarding individuals and property through a community-oriented policing strategy that enhances public relations; conducting investigations into criminal activities; enforcing applicable federal, state, and local laws, along with District policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Patrol Duties: Assigned to one of the four colleges within the Los Rios District, perform patrols of District properties, both on foot and via vehicle; respond to disturbances; secure locations for public safety and further emergency response; detain individuals suspected of wrongdoing; unlock and secure District facilities in the absence of custodial staff; investigate fire and intrusion alarms; enforce District policies and regulations, as well as federal, state, and local laws regarding parking, traffic violations, and criminal activities; conduct crime investigations; adhere to evidence protocols; issue citations, provide counsel, and make arrests on District premises; manage traffic control; assist with events and gatherings on District property; engage with vehicle owners regarding citations; post notices for abandoned vehicles and coordinate towing; appear in court as necessary; conduct routine safety inspections; report any facility or grounds issues to dispatch; maintain and perform minor repairs on daily parking meters; and secure District assets.

Public Safety Initiatives: Ensure public safety on District properties; transport and process individuals at designated detention facilities; enforce court orders and suspension notices; guide the public on facility usage and direct unauthorized individuals to leave District property; provide emergency first aid and CPR; refer violations of student conduct and equity to the appropriate authorities and participate in hearings; collaborate with external agencies as required; respond to accidents and medical emergencies on District property; transport injured or ill students or staff to suitable locations; assist in the collection and transport of revenues; offer safety escorts; perform vehicle jump-starts and unlocks; address elevator issues; receive and securely hold recovered, found, or abandoned property; return recovered items to Lost and Found; promote positive public relations; participate in committees, teams, and projects; and conduct presentations.

Documentation: Prepare various reports, documents, and correspondence; record statements from involved parties; document accident and incident scenes using appropriate audio/visual tools.

Additional Duties: May supervise temporary staff and volunteers; perform related tasks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 21 years of age. Possess an equity-minded focus, demonstrating responsiveness, sensitivity, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities, in relation to varying learning styles; and successfully promote and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
