Position Overview
Compensation:
Range A - $7, $9,065.42/month
Range B - $9,994.56/month
Under supervision, the Deputy Sheriff is responsible for executing law enforcement responsibilities aimed at safeguarding individuals and property, maintaining public order, and performing associated tasks as necessary. This role represents the journey level within the Deputy Sheriff classification. Incumbents are expected to undertake a comprehensive array of responsibilities, which may include patrolling, community-oriented policing, crime prevention, criminal investigations, inmate supervision, court services, or specialized functions such as training and community liaison, depending on the specific assignment.

Employment Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or completion of an acceptable GED test;
AND
One of the following:
1. Possession of a State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Certificate.
2. Completion of a POST Basic Academy.
3. Current enrollment in a POST Basic Academy.
General Qualifications:
Compliance with Government Code: Candidates must meet the minimum standards outlined in California Government Code, Section 1031.
POST Requirement: Ongoing professional training is required in accordance with POST regulations.
Criminal History and Background Checks: The County will review criminal history for candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment. A background check will also be conducted prior to appointment.
Physical and Working Conditions:
Positions require the ability to meet medical standards as prescribed by POST. Incumbents must be capable of performing the full range of Peace Officer functions, including physical restraint and emergency response. Working conditions may involve various shifts, including nights and weekends, and exposure to hazardous situations.
Probationary Period:
The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.
