Role Responsibilities

Under the guidance of supervisory personnel, the Deputy Sheriff is responsible for executing law enforcement duties aimed at safeguarding individuals and property, maintaining public order, and performing related tasks as necessary.   • Overseeing inmate supervision and managing court-related services.
  • Participating in specialized activities such as training and community outreach.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should possess a solid understanding of:

  • Federal, State, and County laws and regulations pertinent to law enforcement.
  • Contemporary practices and methodologies in law enforcement.
  • Legal procedures and evidence handling.
  • Community resources and programs that support public safety.
  • Effective communication techniques with diverse populations.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Certificate, or completion of a POST Basic Academy, or current enrollment in a POST Basic Academy.

General Requirements

Candidates must comply with the standards set forth in California Government Code, Section 1031, and maintain Continued Professional Training (CPT) as required by POST regulations. A valid California driver’s license is also necessary for this role.

Working Conditions

The position may require working various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and entails direct interaction with inmates in a detention facility. Candidates should be prepared to work in diverse environmental conditions and handle potentially hazardous situations.

Probationary Period

A probationary period of twelve (12) months will apply to this classification.
