ABOUT THE POSITION

This position is focused on delivering technical guidance and specialized knowledge to our CNC machining operations at Lincotek Medical. You will work closely with the production team, quality assurance, suppliers, and clients to enhance existing machining workflows, resolve challenges, and innovate new machining solutions. Your role will be pivotal in fostering continuous improvement and achieving safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with operations to take charge and provide direction in CAD/CAM and CNC program management, including the creation, storage, and optimization of standard operating procedures.
  • Deliver expert troubleshooting and support for CNC machining processes as required.
  • Examine machine performance metrics and collaborate with the team to pinpoint improvement opportunities. Refine toolpaths and cutting parameters for effective and high-quality machining.
  • Contribute hands-on to the setup and optimization of new CNC programs and processes when applicable.
  • Assist with process routings in ERP systems - support new part setups and maintenance of existing parts as necessary. Aid in the development of work-in-progress drawings and work instructions.
  • Provide cost estimation assistance to the Sales Team.
  • Innovate new CAD/CAM, Multi-Axis (3 to 5 Axis) CNC machining and auxiliary applications and processes, supporting new part introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Collaborate with customer teams on assigned NPI projects to convert design specifications into practical machining configurations and DFM support.
  • Investigate and implement cutting-edge technologies and best practices in CNC machining and associated processes in partnership with the team. Contribute to the development of the Manufacturing Technology Roadmap.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for CNC operations and auxiliary processes, ensuring that process routings and setup information are well-documented and comprehensible.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on projects.
  • Support the deployment of capital equipment, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Analyze production data to identify cost reduction and cycle time improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and apply lean manufacturing principles, including 5S and changeover reduction strategies. Collaborate with the team to create next-generation fixture and tooling designs for process optimization. Serve as a subject matter expert for the maintenance team regarding CNC equipment.
  • Train and mentor staff on CNC machining and programming best practices, including the development, documentation, and delivery of training materials.
  • Identify potential areas for automation and lights-out production to enhance productivity and throughput.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in CNC technology and automation through research and online communities.
  • Ability to support multiple sites as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A Bachelor's or Associate degree in an engineering discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or 10 years with an Associate degree in CNC machining operations (Multi-Axis milling, turning, Swissturns, grinding, EDM is a plus), with demonstrated experience in programming and process optimization.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with a Trade School background and 15 years of experience in CNC machining, CAD/CAM, and Continuous Improvement.
  • Hands-on capability is essential - the ability to engage in practical development, including machine setup, is optimal for this role. Should be able to effectively validate new processes or work closely with the team to ensure new parts and processes are established and functioning smoothly.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software and CNC simulation tools is necessary. Solidworks and MasterCAM are preferred.
  • Experience in tooling and fixturing design is required.
  • Experience with automation and robotics is a significant advantage.
  • A strong understanding of CNC programming (Fanuc-based controls) as well as blueprint reading and GD&T is essential.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, including customer or end-user interactions.
