Job Overview


The Senior Employee Relations Specialist serves as a key advisor and essential collaborator, guiding both staff and management on a variety of employee relations issues, including but not limited to, conflict resolution and performance management.

This role involves conducting thorough investigations as necessary, while showcasing a deep understanding of Public Storage's policies, culture, and core values. The Specialist will make informed recommendations to address concerns and support strategic actions that lead to favorable outcomes.

As a recognized authority in the field, the Specialist will pinpoint risks and deficiencies, develop, audit, and maintain effective workplace relations programs, and design and implement training sessions that promote best practices.

Utilizing insights from climate surveys, exit interviews, and investigations, this position will offer guidance and support to leaders, ensuring equitable and consistent resolutions to employee relations challenges and disciplinary matters.


Key Responsibilities
The Specialist will respond to urgent situations while proactively working to minimize future risks. Comfort in presenting to leadership and engaging with frontline employees is essential.

This role requires strong project management skills and experience handling various levels of employment investigations, performance management, and employee engagement.

  • Conduct investigations, keeping essential stakeholders updated on progress.
  • Identify and implement initiatives to promote positive employee relations, ensuring the organization's approach is equitable, respectful, and consistent.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to formulate recommendations and strategies that enhance employee relations and engagement.
  • Facilitate climate surveys as necessary, sharing insights with leaders and assisting them in developing actionable plans.
  • Educate Human Resource and Field Leaders on Employee Relations topics, communicating trends and risk factors relevant to Public Storage.
  • Manage Ethics Point and Ask HR Hotline, distributing cases across the organization based on workload and complexity, and ensuring timely follow-up for resolution.
  • Collaborate with key partners across the business and Employee Experience functions.
  • Lead complex and high-volume employee situations related to performance management, providing mentorship and feedback, recommending solutions, and aiding in conflict resolution.
  • Work alongside managers on performance issues, assess progress, and guide both managers and employees through corrective actions and disciplinary processes.
  • Evaluate and enhance existing HR practices to introduce innovative perspectives, trends, and processes.
  • Design and conduct training sessions and interventions tailored to meet employee needs and align with business objectives.
  • Support Human Resource initiatives by drafting and refining policies, developing talking points, and establishing best practices as required.
  • Oversee and assist in the gathering of documents for Legal Subpoena and Litigation, coordinating interviews as necessary.
