Veterinary Instructor

Job Summary:
The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is seeking a highly qualified and experienced veterinary instructor to teach veterinary technology students in a variety of subjects, including anatomy and physiology, radiology, nursing skills, and pharmacology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary medicine and the ability to implement multiple active learning strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Teach veterinary technology students in lecture and laboratory settings, emphasizing critical thinking and clinical application of knowledge.
- Develop and evaluate curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, and pursuing professional growth activities.
- Oversee care of program animals, including creating protocols and providing preventative care, responding to health or behavioral concerns, and maintaining records.
- Act as liaison with the USDA veterinarian and maintain compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, DEA, and USDA regulations.
- Work with the program director and full-time faculty to oversee students' care of animals, including taking student communications regarding animal wellbeing on weekends and holidays.
Requirements:
- Valid California State license as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor (DVM or VMD).
- Minimum 6 years of in-clinic experience ending within the past two years.
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
Working Conditions:
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in an indoor office environment and have the physical abilities to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, bend, kneel, or crouch, and lift and carry objects up to 20 lbs.
