Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage a team of professional accountants, providing guidance and support to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports and statements.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal and state grant fiscal requirements and regulations.
  • Oversee the conduct of audits performed by independent accounting firms and regulatory audits, coordinating the preparation of replies to auditors' findings and developing processes and procedures to implement audit recommendations.
  • Provide guidance on accounting-related issues to staff and other City and government agencies, ensuring consistency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting or a directly related field, plus five years of professional accounting experience, including two years in a supervisory role.
  • Recent experience with GAAP accounting and financial reporting, grants management, and federal and state regulations.
  • Recent experience managing a team of professional accountants, developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, and providing guidance on accounting-related issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, with experience using financial systems and associated upgrades.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, CMA, CGFM, or CGMA license.
  • Recent experience with financial systems and associated upgrades, including fixed assets accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Previous experience working in an accounting firm or government agency.
