Educational Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing assistance to certified staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assist certified staff in delivering instructional programs and reinforcing material introduced by teachers.
- Model and develop students' language and behavior, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Collect, prepare, and arrange resource materials for use by certified personnel, ensuring seamless support for instructional activities.
- Operate support equipment and monitor testing or make-up work by students, maintaining accurate records and reports as needed.
- Support non-instructional classroom duties, such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, and clothing areas, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students.
- Participate in teacher-parent conferences and meetings, providing support and guidance as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Reinforce the implementation of IEP goals, using similar emphasis and techniques as the classroom teacher, to ensure student success.
- Train students in self-help skills, including eating, toileting, hygiene, behavior management, and academic skills, promoting independence and confidence.
- Assist with custodial skills of students, including lifting, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance, using established procedures to ensure student safety and well-being.
- Escort students to other locations on campus and off campus, with the approval of the classroom teacher, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Meet the NCLB highly qualified requirements, including 48 college credit hours or passing the Paraprofessional Test.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations, in-person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of APS community, computer systems, financial, and legal requirements.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
- Experience with educational equipment preferred.
