Overview:
Responsible for overseeing the daily functions of designated department(s) to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. Accountable for supervising staff and managing patient care within a specific program and/or defined workgroup. Identifies and achieves program objectives and outcomes while maintaining regulatory and professional standards. Supports a cost-effective, innovative, and customer-oriented service.

Responsibilities:


Leads and exemplifies the nursing process to guide staff in delivering patient care tailored to the needs of diverse patient populations.

Exhibits adept responses to the needs of patients, families, and colleagues based on the specific context of each situation.

Monitors deviations from expected outcomes, identifies trends, and suggests necessary changes to enhance patient outcomes, ensuring implementation of these changes.

Engages staff in involving patients, significant others, and healthcare providers in the evaluation process.

Equips staff with resources to assist patients and their families in identifying and accessing suitable services and educational opportunities for health-related needs.

Provides leadership within the department to meet organizational goals and objectives. Aids in the formulation of programmatic, clinical, and financial goals and objectives. Responsible for the outcomes related to programmatic, clinical, and financial aspects of the areas under supervision. Proposes options to improve programmatic and clinical outcomes. Monitors compliance with departmental policies and procedures, including dress code and attendance. Ensures that departmental orientation, ongoing education, and clinical development are conducted as required for all personnel. Initiates and administers coaching, counseling, and corrective actions for employees in collaboration with the Director.

Takes the initiative in executing performance improvement activities. Responsible for implementing the Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement program for designated programs. Facilitates staff education and participation in PI/QI initiatives by leading through influence and scheduling. Regularly reviews and communicates patient experience results to staff, collaboratively developing improvement plans. Conducts rounding as necessary. Proposes options and implements plans to enhance patient experience, providing insights to the Director for further enhancements. Reviews, follows up, and documents all incidents, identifying trends and engaging staff and subject matter experts to address departmental incidents.

Collaborates with the department director in selecting and managing resources for a defined workgroup/program. Oversees the selection and supervision of personnel reflective of the community served. Completes performance conversations with team members and fulfills all required tasks, including annual evaluations.

Ultimately responsible for ensuring the departmental schedule is balanced and that time off is granted in accordance with patient care needs.

Investigates and documents financial variances, including productivity, and reviews these with the immediate supervisor at least monthly. Monitors and maintains departmental cost-containment efforts. Promotes and supports employee engagement through rounding and Shared Governance initiatives. Accountable for recruitment and retention metrics and initiatives to support both.

Responsible for attending leadership meetings and communicating relevant information to staff continuously.

Ensures alignment with systemwide and divisional initiatives in all communications to staff and takes ownership of managing crucial conversations for their team.

Creates a cohesive message with the enterprise message as part of the leadership team, even when personal opinions differ.

Actively employs Lean thinking and problem-solving to proactively address departmental issues. Maintains an updated visual management board with key performance indicators.

Regularly conducts rounds to verify and validate unit performance, demonstrating layered leader standard work.

Reviews key performance data and trends to develop performance improvement plans for areas falling below target. Ensures all departmental areas meet regulatory compliance standards and proactively conducts accreditation readiness rounds.

Maintains clinical competency to provide support to the team, patient care, and department by serving as charge nurse or filling staffing needs as required.

Adjusts schedule accordingly.

Supports and upholds decisions made by administrative coordinators when adjusting staff or making other modifications to support overall patient care needs.

Participates in all nursing leadership meetings. Assists in leading systemwide initiatives as requested. Remains informed about current trends in nursing. Demonstrates awareness of personal biases and actively works to address them. Exhibits self-care and the ability to disconnect during time off.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:


REQUIRED:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

EXPERIENCE:
3 years in Healthcare as a Registered Nurse, Required

3 or more years of nursing experience with leadership responsibilities

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

REQUIRED
RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.

BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider


Certification in a clinical specialty as defined by National Certification requirements is required within two (2) years of assuming the Nurse Manager role.
