We are currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Utilities Manager.
This role is based within our Paper Mill operations.

Position Overview: The Utilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring optimal efficiency, productivity, and ongoing enhancement of the Mill Power and Recovery operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the effective utilization of departmental resources to guarantee safe, efficient, and productive operations. This role requires significant decision-making capabilities regarding operational conditions, planning, and directing the effective use of personnel and financial resources.
  2. Evaluate all facets of departmental operations to pinpoint improvement opportunities and formulate strategies through methods, processes, equipment modifications, and staffing to achieve departmental goals.
  3. Collaborate with Maintenance to ensure that departmental equipment is maintained appropriately through a robust preventive maintenance program, well-planned outages, and prompt responses to any operational disruptions.
  4. Engage with Engineering and vendors on capital projects that impact departmental operations.
  5. Lead the development of the annual departmental budget and manage the approved budget effectively.
  6. Identify training requirements for departmental staff and secure resources to facilitate such training.
  7. Ensure compliance with the provisions of the Labor Agreement as they pertain to the Power and Recovery department.
As a member of the Power and Recovery team, the Utilities Manager is expected to adhere to company policies and procedures, share beneficial information with team members, and seek opportunities to enhance service delivery to our customers. This role involves close collaboration with personnel at all levels within the department, as well as with management across other departments within PCA.

Qualifications:
  1. Experience in pulp and paper manufacturing, particularly in Recovery Boiler operations, liquor cycle management, and steam turbine systems.
  2. Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or paper science, or equivalent professional experience.
  3. Strong communication skills.
  4. Proficient in computer applications.
  5. Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as operational needs arise.
