Job Summary:

As a Medical Assistant Ambulatory, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in an ambulatory setting. You will work under the supervision of a licensed practitioner and be responsible for screening, collecting vitals, and preparing patients for examination and treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform pre-visit planning by reviewing patient records and updating information as needed.
Determine needed services based on practice protocols and communicate with providers via the electronic medical record (EMR).
Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room.
Take vital signs, weigh patients, and record information in the patient chart.
Enter patient chief complaint, medication reconciliation, histories, and other services as outlined in workflow protocol.
Note all patient complaints in the EMR and record patient pain scores.
Complete all questionnaires in the patient chart.

Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalency.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting required within the last 5 years.
Basic Life Support Certification.
Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and protocols.
Ability to use a personal computer and scanner.
Ability to use EMR and other software applications.
Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors, and peers in a professional manner.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.
Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions, including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards.
May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
