Position Overview

The Senior Credit Officer plays a pivotal role in the loan management framework by delivering expertise in credit evaluation and loan underwriting to the Bank's Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) divisions. This position involves a thorough analysis of potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for validating the credit assessments conducted by Underwriting Analysts and providing informed opinions and recommendations regarding proposed credit and associated risks. It is essential to ensure that all due diligence and background evaluations are comprehensive and meticulous prior to granting credit approval.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guarantees the implementation of sound practices in the credit approval process throughout the organization.
  • Conducts in-depth analyses of various credit risk factors for both new and existing transactions.
  • Oversees the research and evaluation of clients' financial performance, maintaining continuous monitoring of events and the robustness of the credit portfolio.
  • Regularly tracks relevant market indices and industry trends.
  • Contributes to the preparation of monthly and quarterly reviews of borrowers, sectors, and products to ensure compliance and identify potential credit issues.
  • Engages in the credit approval process, ensuring effective communication with all relevant stakeholders and adherence to credit policies and approval protocols.
  • Participates in restructuring and/or workout processes to safeguard the Bank's assets and optimize recovery.
  • Provides guidance and support to business lines, product groups, examination functions, and risk management on high-level credit and risk-related matters.
  • Prepares materials for internal Bank meetings.
  • Keeps the Chief Credit Officer informed of developments in credit underwriting.
  • Involves in mentoring and developing staff.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all policies and procedures in alignment with the Bank's BSA/AML policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in credit analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret various types of financial statements, including those prepared by companies, tax returns, and audits.
  • Effective communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A college degree is mandatory.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience, particularly in commercial lending (preferably in commercial real estate lending).
  • Strong credit assessment skills – successful completion of a Commercial Credit Training Program is essential.
  • Experience with Jack Henry is advantageous.
  • General proficiency in business computer applications (Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).

Supervisory Role

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role operates within a clerical office setting, routinely utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Job duties are conducted through telephone communications, face-to-face meetings, and computer-based tasks.

Physical Requirements

This position necessitates manual dexterity, the ability to lift files, and access cabinets. It may require bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary for this position.
