Job Overview

The Senior Credit Officer plays a pivotal role in the loan management framework by delivering expert credit and loan underwriting insights to the Bank's Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) divisions. This position involves evaluating potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for validating the credit assessments conducted by Underwriting Analysts and providing informed opinions and recommendations regarding proposed credit opportunities and associated risks. It is essential to ensure that all due diligence and background checks are comprehensive and meticulous prior to granting credit approval.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guarantees the implementation of sound practices throughout the credit approval process across the institution.
  • Conducts necessary evaluations of various credit risk factors for both new and existing transactions.
  • Oversees the research and analysis of clients' financial performance, maintaining continuous oversight of events and the robustness of the credit portfolio.
  • Monitors relevant market indicators and industry trends closely.
  • Contributes to the preparation of monthly and quarterly reviews of borrowers, sectors, and products to ensure compliance and identify any potential credit issues.
  • Engages in the credit approval process, ensuring effective communication with all relevant stakeholders and adherence to credit policies and approval protocols.
  • Participates in restructuring and/or workout processes to safeguard the Bank's assets and optimize recovery.
  • Provides guidance and support to business lines, product groups, examination functions, and risk management regarding high-level credit and risk-related matters.
  • Prepares documentation for internal Bank meetings.
  • Keeps the Chief Credit Officer informed of developments in credit underwriting.
  • Involves in mentoring and staff development initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures as they relate to the Bank's BSA/AML policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in credit analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret various financial statements, including those prepared by companies, tax returns, and audits.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all dealings.
Education and Experience
  • A college degree is required.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience, including a background in commercial lending (preferably in commercial real estate).
  • Demonstrated strong credit skills, with successful completion of a Commercial Credit Training Program.
  • Experience with Jack Henry is a plus.
  • General proficiency in business computer applications (Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role operates within a clerical office environment, routinely utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Job functions are carried out through telephone communications, face-to-face meetings, and computer-based tasks.

Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files, and the capability to open cabinets. Bending, stooping, or standing may be necessary.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary for this role.
