Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Care Specialist to join our team at the Akron Area YMCA. As a key member of our childcare staff, you will be responsible for providing top-notch care and education to our young learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set the Tone for a Positive Learning Environment: Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive growth in our children.
  • Supervise and Support Staff: Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a safe and clean environment, and provide guidance and feedback to support their growth and development.
  • Develop and Implement Lesson Plans: Design and implement engaging and challenging lesson plans that align with our curriculum and standards, and maintain accurate records of child progress and assessments.
  • Communicate Effectively: Share information with parents and caregivers about their child's progress, and communicate with state specialists and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide Emotional Support: Guide children's behavior and learning through active interaction and implementation of lesson plans, and provide emotional support and comfort when needed.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure that all records, including licensing and funding agency requirements, are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings and Training: Attend staff meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay current on best practices and to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and a college degree is preferred.
  • Experience Working with Children: Previous experience working with children is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong Communication and Organizational Skills: Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
  • Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to multitask is critical for this position.
  • Valid Driver's License: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required if you will be driving YMCA vehicles.
Working Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include sitting and standing for long periods, as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing. You must be able to assist a child in distress weighing up to 50lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and tasks may involve infrequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
