Position Overview

Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week) Salary Range: $41,600 - $45,760/year

SUMMARY OF ROLE: The individual in this position will independently manage a comprehensive array of responsibilities, employing the necessary methodologies and techniques to deliver services to biological families, foster families, and adoptive families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties must be executed promptly and efficiently in accordance with the policies of the Family and Community Services agency, as well as state and federal regulations:

  1. Engage in significant interactions with agency personnel, clients, DHHS representatives, court officials, and referral sources.
  2. Provide direct support to children, biological families, foster families, adoptive families, and other pertinent stakeholders.
  3. Adhere to agency policies, COA standards, and federal and state regulations, along with educational and certification prerequisites.
  4. Complete required training hours to maintain qualifications.
  5. Utilize agency forms, documents, informational resources, and other materials to enhance service delivery.
  6. Ensure accurate and confidential maintenance of case records and information.
  7. Assist in the recruitment and retention of foster families as necessary.
  8. Deliver crisis intervention services and be available for on-call support as required.
  9. Report any suspected child abuse or neglect in compliance with state child protection laws, and direct inquiries to the appropriate protective services unit.
  10. Participate in phone calls, home visits, court hearings, and other relevant meetings to ensure appropriate service delivery to clients.
  11. Provide training and education regarding foster care policies and procedures as needed.
  12. Conduct thorough assessments of individuals and families to identify needs and secure appropriate services.
  13. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized case plans and services.
  14. Prepare and maintain clear, concise reports and documentation in line with agency and state licensing policies.
  15. Attend court hearings as required, providing accurate testimony and recommendations based on assessments.
  16. Offer transportation assistance to clients when appropriate.
  17. Conduct investigations in accordance with agency and state regulations as necessary.
  18. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Familiarity with agency policies and operational procedures is preferred.
  2. Understanding of state and federal social welfare laws, including DHHS policies and the Child Protection Law, is preferred.
  3. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, communicate effectively with diverse clients and professionals, and uphold positive public relations.
  4. Knowledge of social work principles, practices, and methodologies.
  5. Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Proficiency in navigating computer systems.
  7. Ability to work independently.
  8. Exhibit good moral character, emotional stability, and professionalism.
  9. Commitment to developing and maintaining the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.
  10. Must not have any convictions related to child abuse or neglect, or other serious offenses.
  11. Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License and ability to meet agency driving requirements.
  12. Must meet agency standards for background checks.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant human services field such as social work, psychology, or sociology is required. Completion of all initial and ongoing training requirements is essential.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of one year of experience as a social service worker, along with completion of CWTI in foster care or adoption, is preferred.
