Child Welfare Specialist

Compensation: $41,600 - $45,760
Work Schedule: Full-time, exempt; flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Key Responsibilities:The role encompasses a comprehensive range of tasks aimed at providing services to biological families, foster families, and adoptive families.
- Engage regularly with agency personnel, clients, DHHS representatives, court officials, and referral sources.
- Interact directly with children, biological families, foster families, adoptive families, and other pertinent individuals.
- Adhere to agency policies, COA regulations, and federal and state requirements, ensuring compliance with educational and certification standards.
- Complete necessary training hours as mandated.
- Utilize agency resources, including form letters and informational materials, to enhance service delivery.
- Maintain precise and confidential case records.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of foster families as required.
- Provide crisis intervention services and be available for on-call support as needed.
- Reporting Obligations: Responsible for reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state statutes.
- Participate in phone calls, home visits, court hearings, and other meetings related to clients to ensure appropriate service delivery.
- Offer support, training, and education regarding foster care policies and procedures.
- Conduct thorough assessments of individuals and families, securing necessary services to meet their needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor case plans and services provided to clients.
- Prepare and maintain clear reports and documentation as per agency and state licensing policies.
- Attend court hearings and provide accurate testimony regarding case progress and services rendered.
- Facilitate transportation assistance for clients when appropriate.
- Conduct investigations in line with state or agency regulations.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- Familiarity with agency policies and operations is preferred.
- Understanding of State and Federal social welfare laws, including DHHS policy and Child Protection Law.
- Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and communicate effectively with a diverse range of clients and professionals.
- Knowledge of social work principles and methods for casework and community organization.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in navigating computer systems.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate emotional stability and professionalism.
- Commitment to developing and maintaining the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.
- Must not have any history of child abuse or neglect convictions or other disqualifying behaviors.
- Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License and ability to meet driving insurability requirements.
- Must pass criminal background and central registry checks.
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant human services fields such as social work, psychology, or family studies is required. Completion of all initial and ongoing training requirements is essential.
Experience Requirements:A minimum of one year of experience as a social service worker, along with completion of CWTI in foster care or adoption, is preferred.
