Responsibilities

The State Director (MN) will be responsible for advocating and protecting the interests of small business in the state legislature, with state agencies, and the office of the Governor. This includes:

  • Advocating for pro-small business initiatives and defeating anti-small business legislation
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders, including small business owners, lawmakers, and government officials
  • Managing and directing staff, including recruitment, selection, and development
  • Leading by example and reinforcing key organizational messages to foster employee understanding of NFIB's mission and vision

The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including public presentation skills for large groups. They will also be proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn and use various other NFIB programs and software.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, or a related field
  • Eight and one-half years of relevant work experience in lobbying, state legislature, or association management
  • Understanding of general and state-specific legislative processes and issues
  • Professional, energetic self-starter with excellent written communication skills
