Nature and Variety of Work

Under the supervision of the Chief and Deputy Court Reporter, the role involves providing both operational and technical assistance to court sessions for the Circuit Court for Prince George's County.
Key Responsibilities

Duties encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing and monitoring designated courtrooms and hearing spaces, which includes verifying recordings, reviewing archives, checking for error notifications, and ensuring quality assurance. Organizes and maintains media for archival and retrieval purposes.
  • Handling office and customer service tasks such as responding to audio and transcript requests via phone; utilizing computer systems and/or VHS equipment to access information within media archives.
  • Processing and organizing documentation, filing, and retrieving videotapes and other media from archives.
  • Providing assistance to Judges, staff, attorneys, and the public regarding transcript and audio order processing.
  • Ensuring quality control by confirming that digital recordings are annotated according to the Court's specifications for efficient access, archiving, and playback.
  • Alerting the Circuit Court's Office of Information Technology about any issues affecting the recording in real-time, such as microphone failures, camera adjustments needed in court and hearing rooms, and other audio/visual concerns.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's Degree in Business Administration or Social Science, along with one (1) year of administrative experience involving public interaction, office management, and operational tasks. Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in computer software, troubleshooting, and support for various software applications, including but not limited to Windows, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and CourtSmart (preferred);
  • Basic understanding of courtroom processes, particularly in relation to capturing clear recordings for transcription needs;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities;
  • Attention to detail and capability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Advanced computer skills, including the use of video and telecommunication technologies such as Zoom, Webex, MS Teams, and other web conferencing platforms;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a strong ethical standard;
  • A natural inclination for follow-through, teamwork, and professional accountability for the quality of work performed.
