Position Overview:

The Energy Engineer plays a pivotal role in fostering collaborations with both private and public sectors to innovate research concepts and convert them into viable projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. Through comprehensive energy assessments and technical analyses, this role is essential in addressing energy challenges across various sectors including industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Energy Resource Center (ERC) project teams to identify and cultivate energy and environmental research initiatives, facilitating their transformation into fundable projects focused on energy efficiency, utilization, conversion, storage, and emission reduction. Provide specialized technical and engineering knowledge in energy efficiency technologies and methodologies.
  • Contribute original concepts to technical proposals, playing a significant role in drafting major sections and working alongside ERC project teams to finalize all proposal components, including technical specifications, budgetary outlines, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Act as the principal investigator and primary contact for select projects and/or components of ERC programs, overseeing tasks and ensuring accountability for outcomes. Provide insights and recommendations to sponsoring agencies and respond to inquiries. Ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of final project outputs, including reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Utilize engineering principles and in-depth technical expertise in energy and environmental technologies to address specific research challenges and opportunities, employing analytical skills, technical writing, and independent research.
  • Participate as a technical team member within multidisciplinary project teams, offering guidance in areas of expertise and occasionally leading engineering activities in the field, such as site evaluations and energy assessments. Review and approve project plans, timelines, and financial structures, ensuring the accuracy of final deliverables.
  • Conduct both independent and collaborative research as necessary.
  • Promote interdisciplinary program development to create new initiatives that incorporate principles of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Manage staff by planning, assigning, and reviewing work to meet group objectives. Recruit, train, and develop personnel to ensure a skilled workforce is available to achieve departmental goals.
  • Engage in additional related responsibilities and special projects as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in mechanical, industrial, electrical, chemical, civil, energy, or a related field) with at least two years of experience in energy, manufacturing, utility, research, or service sectors.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or Finance with a minimum of one year of relevant work or research experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a solid understanding of energy engineering principles, analysis techniques, and energy financing concepts. Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Research related to Energy, and familiarity with energy engineering software is advantageous).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in modeling heat pump technologies.
