Position Overview

The Energy Engineer plays a pivotal role in advancing energy efficiency initiatives through collaboration with both private and public sectors. This position focuses on transforming innovative research concepts into actionable projects aimed at enhancing energy performance across various markets, including industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and cultivate energy and environmental research opportunities, facilitating their transition into viable projects focused on energy efficiency, usage, conversion, storage, and emission reduction.
  • Contribute original ideas and substantial sections to technical proposals, working closely with project teams to ensure comprehensive completion of all proposal components, including technical specifications, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Act as the principal investigator and primary contact for select projects, overseeing tasks and ensuring accountability for outcomes. Provide insights and recommendations to funding agencies and respond to inquiries, ensuring timely delivery of final project outputs.
  • Utilize engineering principles and extensive technical knowledge of energy and environmental technologies to address specific research challenges and opportunities, engaging in analysis, technical writing, and independent research.
  • Participate as a technical team member, offering guidance in areas of expertise while occasionally leading engineering activities in the field, such as site assessments and energy evaluations. Review and approve project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring the accuracy of all deliverables.
  • Conduct both independent and collaborative research as needed, promoting interdisciplinary planning to develop new programs that incorporate energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Manage staff by planning, assigning, and reviewing work to meet group objectives, ensuring a qualified team is in place to achieve departmental goals.
  • Engage in additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in mechanical, industrial, electrical, chemical, civil, energy, or a related field) with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in energy, manufacturing, utility, research, or service industries.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or Finance with at least one year of equivalent work or research experience in a related area.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a solid understanding of energy engineering principles, analysis techniques, and energy financing concepts. Proficiency in software applications such as MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and any energy engineering software is advantageous.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in modeling heat pump technologies.
