Position Overview:
Optum Long Island Pulmonary is actively seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and patient-centric Senior Patient Care Coordinator to become a vital part of our team. This role involves executing established processes and protocols while collaborating effectively with all care team members to uphold the organization's vision and mission, deliver outstanding customer service, and comply with Lean methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome patients, family members, and visitors with a warm demeanor.
  • Assist patients in signing in and completing their registration.
  • Input and scan patient demographic and insurance details into the system.
  • Confirm insurance eligibility and benefits, informing patients accordingly.
  • Collect co-payments and outstanding patient balances.
  • Handle incoming calls courteously, directing them as needed and taking messages.
  • Support physicians and clinical staff by coordinating follow-up care and scheduling referral appointments.
  • Send patient records to primary care providers.
  • Assist with various tasks as assigned and manage daily schedules.
  • Act as a superuser for the electronic health record system.
  • Provide support to all staff and leadership, assisting in de-escalating patient concerns.
  • Offer guidance and consultation to team members, educating them on integrated care.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience in a healthcare environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical front office role with responsibilities such as scheduling, patient check-in/out, insurance verification, and record maintenance.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred:
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Familiarity with insurance carriers and managed care plans.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Soft Skills:
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating sound judgment and accountability. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey information clearly and interpret details from others.
