Position Overview
The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, executing, and assessing nursing care for a designated group of patients. This role involves collaboration with Physicians and other healthcare professionals to address the comprehensive health needs of patients. The Registered Nurse may serve as the primary nurse or team leader in delivering nursing services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, formulates care plans, implements interventions, and evaluates the nursing care provided to assigned patients.
- Performs initial assessments as documented in Nursing Care Plans and nursing notes.
- Reassesses patients at each shift change and when there are changes in their condition.
- Maintains communication with supervisors regarding any changes in patient conditions or treatments.
- Collaborates with other healthcare team members for necessary follow-up care.
- Informs patients about procedures prior to their execution.
- Delivers patient care while respecting their privacy and dignity.
- Responds swiftly and effectively in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of patients and staff.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care quality.
- Works with healthcare team members to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Interprets and carries out treatment plans as directed by the Physician.
- Assists Physicians and Residents during medical treatments and diagnostic procedures.
- Observes and reports on patient conditions during treatments and procedures.
- Ensures a safe, clean, and calm environment for patients to alleviate stress and anxiety.
- Maintains vigilance to ensure patient safety precautions are observed.
- Applies established nursing procedures based on scientific principles.
- Creates a tranquil atmosphere and communicates effectively with patients' families or caregivers.
- Adheres to universal precautions and infection control protocols.
- Engages in patient education initiatives.
- Provides explanations regarding patients' conditions as appropriate.
- Communicates assessment findings by documenting and sharing relevant information with healthcare team members and appropriate agencies.
- Identifies and utilizes opportunities for health education and available resources.
- Facilitates early discharge planning and makes appropriate referrals by providing home care instructions to patients and their caregivers.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching through feedback from patients and families, documenting the results.
- Maintains accurate documentation of patients' medical records, including observations and actions taken during their hospital stay.
- Records treatment, activities, and patient conditions, as well as responses to medical and nursing interventions.
- Follows the Nursing Department's documentation policies.
- Performs duties as needed based on staffing requirements.
- Takes on charge responsibilities when designated.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff members.
- Participates in nursing and hospital committees as assigned.
- Completes other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Must enroll in an accredited program within 24 months of employment if hired after September 1, 2010, and obtain a BSN degree within five years of the employment date.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Minimum of one to two years of experience in a hospital environment.
- Shift hours may vary.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $55.19-$55.19/hour.
