POSITION SUMMARY

The Automation Systems Engineer (Field Technician) is responsible for initiating project operations, which encompasses the installation, calibration, and commissioning of instruments; panel terminations, markups, and testing; as well as network terminations and testing; and providing training on instrumentation and panels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initiates the setup of project instrumentation, which may involve installation, wiring, terminations, and calibrations.
  • Commission control panels on-site, including field signal wiring, panel wire terminations, input/output signal verification, and interfacing with field equipment.
  • Terminates plant network fiber and copper cables, testing for signal loss in each segment.
  • Updates control panel schematics with modifications to accurately reflect actual field equipment interfaces.
  • Conducts customer training sessions on project instrumentation and control panels.
  • Provides on-site troubleshooting support to contractors, electricians, and owners as needed.
  • Offers on-call service for clients with maintenance agreements as directed by the service management team.
  • Performs or delegates any additional tasks necessary to enhance customer service and satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A technical degree in an engineering discipline or a minimum of three years of field service experience in instrumentation and control systems is required.
  • A solid understanding and practical knowledge of process instruments is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and P&ID drawings is essential.
  • Strong communication skills are crucial for interaction with customers, management, and team members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical activities include moving and carrying instruments and equipment, as well as some lifting of panels. Good manual dexterity is necessary for working with instruments and equipment, along with the use of standard office equipment such as computers and copiers.

Frequent kneeling and sitting within panels for extended periods is typical. Normal hearing and vision are essential for effective communication with customers, and vision is necessary for reading schematics and contract drawings. Regular use of telecommunication and email for communication is expected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is primarily conducted at project sites, involving work with process instruments, signal wiring, and control panels.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Significant travel (90%+) is necessary for project initiation and service calls.
