The Global Agile Integrated Transport (GAIT) is a comprehensive MPLS network that interlinks the Army Regional Hub Nodes (RHNs), various DoD Teleports (SATCOM only), and additional points of presence to support a worldwide tactical network. This infrastructure is essential for training, contingency, and operational missions on a global scale. GAIT facilitates the successful integration of processing equipment that addresses a multi-phase convergence methodology: Transport Convergence phase 1 (Intelligence Convergence) and phase 2 (Telemedicine Convergence). It also serves as the backhaul network for emerging needs such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) and En route Mission Command and Control (EMC2).

The PM Tactical Network (TN) employs a range of specialists including satellite engineers, technicians, network engineers, cyber security experts, and other technical professionals during program and project planning and management.


Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • The Senior Systems Engineer Lead oversees the daily operations of the NSC, which includes comprehensive monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and providing additional support to NSC clients as required, delivering technical support for satellite systems and other engineering services.
  • Collaborates with PM TN to develop and enhance the network/system design by effectively utilizing emulation test bed capabilities and other laboratory resources for the ongoing refinement and improvement of GAIT.
  • Assists PM TN in the development of network architecture, outlining evaluation criteria, and formulating experiments and test plans.
  • Engages with PM TN in data analysis and the formulation of recommendations. This role supports the establishment and maintenance of a large virtual network emulation environment through available commercial tools and in-house development.
  • This position necessitates extensive knowledge of networking technologies and a robust analytical background to clearly define, analyze, and relate results back to system design and characteristics.
  • The Senior Systems Engineer Lead will participate in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with various internal and external groups as the subject matter expert (SME), focusing primarily on command, control, and communications systems technologies.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment is a climate-controlled facility.
  • May require support during non-traditional working hours, including nights or weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling 40 lbs. without assistance.
Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in networking/telecommunications, or equivalent work experience may be considered as a substitute. Previous service in SATCOM roles, such as 25S or 31S MOS, is also acceptable.
  • Cisco Networking certifications are preferred.
  • Direct experience in managing LAN/WAN technologies or supporting enterprise networks is essential.

Experience / Skills:

  • Experience in the installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite systems; ability to resolve complex issues, understand circuit interrelationships, and exercise independent judgment in tasks supporting communications systems or equipment; OR
  • Expertise in military satellite communications or commercial satellite communications terminals, including X, C, KA, Ku-band satellite terminals; and FDMA, TDMA, IP-type satellite modems; OR
  • Experience in networking and cyber technologies and platforms.
