The Global Agile Integrated Transport (GAIT) is a sophisticated MPLS network that links Army Regional Hub Nodes (RHNs), various DoD Teleports (SATCOM only), and additional presence points to facilitate a global tactical network. This infrastructure is essential for training, contingency, and operational missions on an international scale. GAIT enables the effective integration of processing equipment that addresses a multi-phase convergence methodology: Transport Convergence phase 1 (Intelligence Convergence) and phase 2 (Telemedicine Convergence). It also serves as the backhaul network for emerging needs such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) and En route Mission Command and Control (EMC2).

The PM Tactical Network (TN) employs a diverse range of specialists, including satellite engineers, technicians, network engineers, cybersecurity experts, and other technical professionals throughout program and project planning and management.


Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • The Senior Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for supporting the NSC's daily operations, which include overall monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and providing additional assistance to NSC clients as required, delivering technical support for satellite systems and other engineering services.
  • Collaborates with PM TN to enhance and refine the network/system design by effectively utilizing emulation test bed capabilities and other laboratory resources for continuous improvement of the GAIT.
  • Assists PM TN in developing network architecture, establishing evaluation criteria, and formulating experiments and test plans.
  • Engages in data analysis and recommendation development for PM TN. This role also involves creating and maintaining a comprehensive virtual network emulation environment using available commercial tools and in-house resources.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of networking technologies and a robust analytical background to clearly define, analyze, and relate results back to system design and characteristics.
  • Participates in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with various internal and external groups as the subject matter expert (SME), focusing primarily on command, control, and communications systems technologies.

Work Environment:

  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled facility.
  • May necessitate support during non-traditional working hours, including evenings or weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling 40 lbs. without assistance.
Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in networking/telecommunications, or equivalent work experience may be considered as a substitute. Prior military SATCOM experience, such as 25S or 31S MOS, is also acceptable.
  • Cisco Networking certifications are preferred.
  • Direct experience in managing LAN/WAN technologies or supporting enterprise networks is required.

Experience / Skills:

  • Experience in the installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite systems; ability to resolve complex issues, understand circuit interrelationships, and exercise independent judgment in supporting communications systems or equipment; OR
  • Expertise in military satellite communications or commercial satellite communications terminals, including X, C, KA, Ku-band satellite terminals, and FDMA, TDMA, IP-type satellite modems; OR
  • Experience in networking and cybersecurity technologies and platforms.
