Compensation Structure

The salary range for this position is as follows:

  • $142,050 - $182,388 Annual (TSS.3)
  • $170,430 - $218,868 Annual (TSS.4)

Please note that these figures are guidelines and actual compensation may vary based on several factors, including experience and qualifications.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Construction Manager who will provide advanced technical and administrative oversight for the execution of construction projects related to laboratory infrastructure. This role involves managing subcontracted construction efforts and ensuring effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders across the laboratory.

The Project Management Office (PMO) at LLNL is responsible for delivering engineering, design, estimating, construction, and project management services. Our focus is on supporting cutting-edge research and development in defense technologies, global security, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer expert guidance during the planning and execution of construction activities, particularly in nuclear facilities.
  • Monitor project timelines, identify potential challenges, and facilitate solutions to minimize risks.
  • Resolve complex technical issues related to construction specifications and drawings.
  • Assess project challenges and develop strategies to meet quality and productivity goals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs and monitor subcontractor adherence to safety protocols.
  • Oversee construction schedules and manage critical project milestones.
  • Review safety plans and job hazard analyses to ensure alignment with laboratory safety policies.
  • Provide daily oversight of construction activities to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Coordinate commissioning processes and compile project close-out documentation.
  • Communicate project updates and issues to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in nuclear operations and engineering design, with a solid understanding of safety and security requirements.
  • Proven ability to supervise contract labor and ensure timely delivery of project objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction management practices, methods, and materials.
  • Experience with constructability reviews and managing construction budgets.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and regulations applicable to construction projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DOE facilities and familiarity with relevant DOE Orders.
  • Proficiency in MS Project.
  • Knowledge of LLNL's Integrated Safety Management System.

Additional Information

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance, and selected candidates will undergo a background investigation. A pre-employment drug test is also required.
