Position Summary:

The Recycling Center Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the recycling and post-collection processes within a designated Recycling Center. This role involves managing a diverse team, including Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers, Sorters, Helpers, and equipment operators, ensuring the efficient functioning of the Recycling Center.

The Operations Supervisor collaborates with the General Manager and other managerial staff to implement local strategies for marketing commodities, aligning with the overall strategic objectives of the area while executing tactical initiatives aimed at achieving operational excellence and budgetary goals.

The role also encompasses overseeing all aspects of recycling operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing recycling contracts and permits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for recycling and post-collection operations, ensuring effective management of all operational staff.
  • Oversee staff management processes, including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluations, while addressing safety concerns and claims effectively.
  • Implement strategic plans that align with the business unit’s objectives, championing initiatives that enhance customer experience and operational profitability.
  • Drive operational plans to meet or exceed budgetary and strategic goals, focusing on customer satisfaction and service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards across all recycling operations.
  • Monitor recycling contracts and permit compliance, ensuring optimal processing of inbound materials and production of commodities.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop sales strategies for marketing commodities and identify new recycling opportunities.
  • Lead safety and accident prevention initiatives to maintain a secure and productive work environment.
  • Manage departmental budgets, including expense approvals and vendor pricing.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture, emphasizing talent development and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, community, and environmental organizations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience, or participation in a management trainee program.
