Position Overview:

Alive Hospice and Palliative Care is in search of a Chief Advancement Officer to spearhead and oversee a comprehensive fundraising and communication strategy. This executive will be pivotal in crafting and implementing initiatives that align with the organization’s financial objectives, encompassing endowment, annual contributions, significant donations, planned giving, special events, and grant opportunities.

Alive Hospice is a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to providing hospice care and end-of-life services in Middle Tennessee. Our mission focuses on delivering compassionate care to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, supporting their families, and engaging with the community to enrich lives. Our services include in-home and inpatient hospice care, grief support, advance care planning, outreach to underserved populations, educational programs, financial assistance, and a robust volunteer initiative. As a pioneer in the good death movement, Alive has been a leader in hospice care since its inception in 1975.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the President/CEO to establish a visionary and strategic framework for the advancement initiatives.
  • Oversee all facets of the Advancement department, including leading, mentoring, and supervising the Advancement team to execute effective fundraising programs.
  • Drive fundraising, community engagement, and communication strategies, ensuring alignment and collaboration across the organization.
  • Partner strategically with the President/CEO to provide insights, data, and donor information for joint donor engagements.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive fundraising and communication plan, reviewing it quarterly and providing monthly updates to the President/CEO.
  • Supervise the Communications and Development teams, ensuring effective execution of strategies.
  • Establish and implement strategic initiatives to enhance annual giving, major gifts, corporate support, foundation grants, and planned giving.
  • Lead major gift fundraising efforts, managing a portfolio of approximately 75 key prospects.
  • Direct capital campaigns and special initiatives, communicating donor naming opportunities effectively.
  • Engage with the Development Committee of the Board, fostering awareness and involvement in Advancement activities.
  • Work with the communications team to ensure consistent and tailored messaging to enhance visibility and donor relations.
  • Oversee grant research, proposal development, compliance, and reporting processes.
  • Represent the organization at various events and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the President/CEO.
  • Contribute to senior leadership activities, including budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Participate in community education initiatives and professional organizations to promote awareness of hospice and palliative care.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate team members, focusing on professional growth and alignment with the organization’s mission.
  • Identify community needs related to the Alive Hospice mission and ensure appropriate funding and communication strategies are in place.
  • Prepare and implement crisis communication plans as necessary.
  • Manage the Alive Hospice brand effectively.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in nonprofit fundraising, particularly in major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns, alongside a proven track record in leading communication and marketing efforts. A successful history of cultivating and stewarding gifts exceeding $1 million is essential. Familiarity with the Middle Tennessee philanthropic landscape is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field is required, with a master’s degree being advantageous.
