Position Overview

**This role is hybrid, requiring in-office attendance 3 to 4 days per week**

Mediabistro, a leader in the media industry, is seeking a Managing Editor. In this dynamic role, the Managing Editor will serve as the chief operational leader of the newsroom, ensuring the seamless flow of content across various platforms including digital, mobile, email, print, and social media. As the primary hands-on manager and mentor for reporters, the Managing Editor is responsible for fostering creativity, providing inspiration, and delivering ongoing support to the content team.

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Editor will oversee the continuous programming initiatives of the content team, necessitating a strong news instinct, the ability to make quick decisions regarding story treatment, and a high degree of confidence in managing the diverse activities of editorial team members. Exceptional organizational skills are essential for this management role, which reports directly to the Editor-In-Chief.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Skills:
  • Proficient wordsmith with a knack for reporting and story development.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to make prompt decisions regarding story treatment.
  • Acts as a motivating and inspiring presence within the newsroom.
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Comfortable navigating a fast-paced media landscape.
  • Collaborates effectively with editors, photographers, designers, and other stakeholders to enhance the impact of reported stories.
  • Able to perform under tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience in leading and contributing to large-scale editorial initiatives.
Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of management and/or team leadership experience is required.
  • Experience in daily and/or weekly print operations for a business news organization.
  • Proven editing experience.
