What does a Business Lending Specialist do? The following responsibilities outline the essential functions of this role, though individual capabilities may lead to variations in execution:
  1. Engages in business development and seeks new opportunities; actively contributes to fostering a positive sales culture through education on the Bank's offerings.
  2. Conducts interviews with potential clients, gathering necessary information related to loan or credit applications, and follows up to clarify any uncertainties.
  3. Performs assessments and evaluations of financial conditions and risks associated with financing requests, aligning with the Bank's credit culture and current market trends.
  4. Collects and analyzes all pertinent information to present financing proposals to Senior Management or the Loan Committee for approval; interacts with clients, visits loan sites, negotiates terms, and either approves loans within set limits or refers them for further consideration.
  5. Oversees the processing of approved loans, ensuring compliance with agreements and customer requirements while adhering to Bank policies; resolves issues related to loan processing and servicing.
  6. Conducts thorough credit inquiries and UCC filings to assess creditworthiness and ensure proper collateral management.
  7. Facilitates the certification or removal of collateral as required.
  8. Negotiates, underwrites, and processes renewals of credit facilities.
  9. Approves loan payments, draws from credit lines, and manages fund transfers within established parameters.
  10. Issues commitment, engagement, auction, and decline letters as necessary.
  11. Exemplifies superior customer service and ensures follow-through with clients and team members.
  12. Confirms funds with mortgage providers and contractors.
  13. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the financial sector, economic conditions, market trends, rates, vendors, and competition.
  14. Represents the Bank at various community and civic events to enhance its image and foster new business opportunities.
  15. May review reports for assigned customers and make decisions on exceptions within established lending limits.
  16. Cross-sells additional Bank products and services, directing clients to appropriate personnel as needed.
  17. Communicates with legal counsel and collectors regarding workouts, bankruptcies, and charge-offs to ensure all precautionary measures are taken.
  18. Contributes to achieving annual loan growth targets set by Executive Management and participates in various internal committees.
  19. Responds to inquiries or directs them to the appropriate department, ensuring necessary follow-up.
  20. Applies sound decision-making techniques to inquiries, approvals, and requests in accordance with existing policies, using these instances for team development.
  21. Handles complex customer transactions, problems, or inquiries with proficiency.
  22. Maintains confidentiality of customer and Bank information.
  23. Treats individuals with respect, honors commitments, inspires trust, acts ethically, and upholds organizational values.

SECONDARY DUTIES

The Business Lending Specialist may also perform additional functions as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not involve supervising other employees.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This full-time, non-exempt role is based in Kimberling City, MO, and reports to the Market President. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with an on-site working arrangement.

As a Community Bank, we are dedicated to serving our community, and employees may participate in outreach events outside of regular business hours.

Work Environment and Physical Activity

The role is primarily office-based, allowing for mobility. It may involve driving a Bank or personal vehicle 10-15% of the time, with exposure to various weather conditions.

Key physical activities include writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 10 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (including close and peripheral vision), sitting, standing, walking, and reaching.

The incumbent may use various office equipment such as telephones, computers, printers, and other devices as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of 3 years of lending experience.
  • Ability to meet the essential functions and demands of the position.
  • Valid driver's license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance if driving is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of human resource laws and policies.

  • Current registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
