San Francisco, California, United States Astranis Full time

About Astranis:
Astranis is dedicated to closing the digital gap by connecting the billions of individuals globally who currently lack internet access. We are achieving this by developing the next generation of compact, cost-efficient spacecraft designed to bring connectivity to the world.

Our team has successfully launched multiple satellites into orbit, secured numerous commercial agreements valued at over $1 billion, raised substantial funding from leading global investors, and built a talented team of over 300 exceptional engineers.

We operate from our historic San Francisco office, a site with a rich legacy of shipbuilding during the World Wars. Our satellites, operating from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh a mere 400 kg and feature a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite has the capacity to connect over two million individuals, and we are eager to make a significant impact in regions such as the Philippines, Peru, and Mexico.

Position Overview:
As a Lead Reliability Testing Engineer, you will face the unique challenge of collaborating across all engineering disciplines to guarantee that our hardware meets the utmost standards of quality and reliability.

As Astranis expands its satellite production, establishing a comprehensive reliability testing program is essential to support the development of new product designs, monitor the health of manufacturing processes, and identify long-term reliability issues.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement reliability testing strategies for new products to enhance field longevity and reduce early-life failures.
- Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to optimize reliability across all areas.
- Design and conduct innovative environmental, RF, mechanical, and electrical testing techniques tailored to the product's specifications.
- Create test programs to evaluate product functionality under various conditions and environments.
- Automate reliability testing initiatives and reporting, utilizing effective data visualization techniques and a thorough understanding of the product and its functions.
- Define an ongoing reliability testing strategy to oversee manufacturing process health and identify long-term reliability defects stemming from process and component variability.
- Investigate root causes of systemic production issues or failures identified during testing and drive design or process modifications to achieve long-term reliability objectives.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in testing, analysis, manufacturing, or hardware development.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in environmental testing methods such as HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, and TVAC.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, and SQL, with a focus on data analysis and automation.
- Proven ability to think creatively and solve complex challenges with minimal supervision while adhering to deadlines.
- Comprehensive understanding of electronics reliability and failure mechanisms.
- Demonstrated capacity to thrive in a highly cross-functional role.
- Onsite presence required five days a week.
- Preferred: Experience with both electronics and mechanical design and analysis, including knowledge of RF principles. Experience in fast-paced, iterative design environments within consumer electronics, medical devices, aerospace, marine, or automotive sectors.

What We Offer:
All positions at Astranis come with a competitive compensation package that includes equity and comprehensive benefits. The base salary is just one component of Astranis's total rewards package, which may also include equity in the form of incentive stock options, high-quality company-subsidized healthcare, disability and life insurance benefits, flexible PTO, 401(K) retirement plans, and complimentary on-site meals.

Astranis's pay ranges are informed by professional-grade salary surveys and compensation data sources. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will be influenced by various factors, including experience, credentials, educational background, skill level requirements, and the scope of the position.

Commitment to Diversity:
Our mission and products aim to connect the world and everyone within it, regardless of gender, race, creed, or any other distinction. We believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage all individuals to join our team and contribute their unique perspectives to strengthen our organization.
