Senior Director of Artificial Intelligence

We are seeking a visionary leader to drive AI initiatives and transform the future of WEX. As Sr. Director of Applied AI, you will lead a high-performing team of AI architects and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute AI strategy, partnering with AI leaders to define and implement a comprehensive AI roadmap aligned with WEX's strategic goals.
- Lead a team of data scientists working with machine learning engineers to build AI solutions, leveraging traditional machine learning models and modern Generative AI and LLMs.
- Actively contribute to the design, development, evaluation, and implementation of AI solutions, especially in the early stages of team formation.
- Drive AI innovation, staying abreast of the latest AI research and trends to ensure WEX remains at the forefront of AI innovation.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across WEX to identify and address AI opportunities, building strong relationships with external partners, academic institutions, and the broader AI community.
- Foster a culture of AI adoption across WEX, educating and empowering teams to leverage AI tools and techniques to drive business value.
- Establish clear metrics to measure the impact of AI initiatives, communicating results and insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience with 10+ years of experience in AI research, development, or deployment.
- 10+ years of experience leading and managing AI teams.
- Proven track record of delivering impactful AI solutions to real-world business problems.
- Experience with a wide range of AI techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or other relevant languages.
- Practice experience in using AI tools such as Dataiku, Sagemaker, as well as using large language models (LLMs) such as chatgpt, llama 2.
- Experience in the fintech or payments industry.
- Experience with cloud-based AI platforms (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Google Cloud AI Platform).
- Publications in top-tier AI conferences or journals.
- Experience with AI ethics and responsible AI practices.

Base pay range: $210,000.00 - $280,000.00
