Position Overview
The Head of Process Engineering is a pivotal role responsible for guiding and managing the engineering team at Chobani's production facility. This position demands a high level of accountability, leadership, and independent decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
This role encompasses the oversight of the design process from initial project conception through to execution and completion. The Director will evaluate vendor capabilities, negotiate contract terms, and ensure successful project delivery, focusing on the performance of process systems.
Additionally, the Director will ensure the seamless support of daily manufacturing operations, addressing troubleshooting, optimization, and waste reduction initiatives. This position is crucial for maintaining food safety and quality standards for Chobani products.
Specific Duties Include:
- Providing technical expertise to support processing, utilities, and wastewater systems.
- Designing strategies to enhance process efficiencies while reducing costs and improving quality and safety.
- Diagnosing process issues and identifying root causes to implement effective solutions.
- Coordinating process control with automation systems.
- Developing conceptual engineering designs and layout plans for process equipment.
- Creating documentation to support process modifications, including PFDs, P&IDs, and scope definitions.
- Specifying necessary equipment and collaborating with vendors to achieve project goals.
- Leading process risk assessments and project-related FMEAs.
- Overseeing the creation of intervention and flush plans.
- Ensuring accurate asset tagging and functionality of automated reporting systems.
- Determining layouts for piping, equipment, and utilities for engineering modifications.
- Collaborating closely with the Project Management team to ensure timely and budget-compliant project delivery.
- Conducting research and trials related to engineering topics in conjunction with production.
- Assisting in the transition of capital projects to the production team.
- Maintaining a comprehensive documentation library in partnership with the drafting team.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the dairy or food manufacturing sector, with a strong emphasis on process knowledge. A background in cultured dairy products is advantageous.
- A minimum of 3-5 years in a director-level role leading a technical team.
- 10-15 years of experience in capital projects or plant operations.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in HACCP, food safety, and compliance regulations; PMO experience is a plus.
- Understanding of PLC and logic controls for high-speed equipment is essential.
- A proven leader capable of fostering collaboration, creating a shared vision, and driving change.
- Willingness to engage as a working manager, providing technical support to the engineering team as necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and ensure task completion.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and team leadership, with a track record of driving process improvements and operational efficiencies.
