This position operates on a structured schedule of 8am to 4:30pm, following a 4:2 rotation.

Overview:
In a role requiring minimal oversight, the Lead CNA is tasked with guiding,


mentoring, and supporting the development of fellow CNAs to enhance the overall quality of care provided to residents.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the onboarding process for new Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA's) and Resident Sitters by reviewing departmental protocols, safety measures, and ensuring effective training through shadowing.
  • Assesses the competencies of newly hired CNAs and Resident Sitters, providing feedback to the Director of Staff Development regarding their orientation progress.
  • Offers constructive evaluations to new team members.
  • Communicates updates on new initiatives, interventions, and procedures to the CNA and Resident Sitter teams.
  • Conducts audits at the beginning of each shift to ensure all CNAs and Resident Sitters are present and fulfilling their assigned duties.
  • Assists in covering breaks and meal times for CNAs and Resident Sitters, as well as managing patient assignments when necessary.
  • Collaborates with the Charge Nurse to schedule breaks and meal times for the CNA and Resident Sitter staff, ensuring timely returns to their units.
  • Aids the Director of Staff Development in coordinating coverage for CNAs and Resident Sitters.
  • Monitors accurate charting by CNAs, ensuring all documentation is completed by the end of their shifts.
  • Ensures adherence to the shower schedule and that residents are appropriately dressed and groomed daily.

    In cases of refusal, the Lead CNA is responsible for ensuring proper documentation by the CNA and notifying the Charge Nurse.

  • Supports the Director of Staff Development in preparing and delivering CNA training sessions.
  • Ensures timely distribution of nourishments, meal trays, and hydration by CNAs, and assists with one-on-one feeding or hydration as needed.
  • Provides input to Charge Nurses regarding CNA assignments.
  • Conducts rounds to verify that CNAs and Resident Sitters are fulfilling their responsibilities and that policies and procedures are being followed, addressing any concerns with the Director of Staff Development or Human Resources.
  • May assist in conducting evaluations or competencies for CNAs or Resident Sitters.
  • Collaborates with support services to maintain high-quality care for residents (e.g., admissions, activities).
  • Brings any concerns regarding team members or residents to the attention of the Director of Staff Development.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to resident call lights, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
  • Aids the unit in gathering supplies to maintain inventory levels.
  • Assists with labeling residents' personal belongings.
  • Supports Charge Nurses and the Director of Staff Development in managing confidential documentation.
  • Immediately informs the Charge Nurse or RN Supervisor of any observed changes in resident conditions.
  • May assist the DSD office with various administrative tasks.
  • Fosters an environment of warmth, personal engagement, and respect throughout the facility.
  • Assists CNAs with two-person assist moves or with residents requiring additional support for safety or supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must hold an active Certified Nursing Assistant and Restorative Nursing Aide Certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
Current CPR and BLS certification is also required.
