The Coriell Institute for Medical Research is currently on the lookout for a skilled Junior Bioinformatics Analyst to become a part of our dynamic team. This role involves collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and sustain next-generation sequencing workflows for the analysis of RNA and DNA sequencing data. Previous professional experience in this field is essential.

Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Bioinformatics, this individual will play a vital role in supporting the research department. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently while working alongside diverse, cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

Required knowledge and skills include:

  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing NGS data, especially in transcriptomics and sequence analysis
  • Basic understanding of R and/or Python scripting languages
  • Experience in managing and maintaining several projects simultaneously across various teams
  • Fundamental knowledge of statistical testing
  • Comprehension of essential biological concepts
  • Familiarity with genomic data repositories and analysis tools, such as TCGA, ICGC, COSMIC, ENCODE, ExAc, and UCSC Genome Browser

The Junior Bioinformatics Analyst is expected to develop expertise in pipeline creation, analysis, and troubleshooting of multiomics data, including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, Whole Genome and Exome sequencing, as well as DNA methylation.

Educational Background:

The preferred candidate for this position holds a Bachelor's degree in a biological or computational field. A Master's degree is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Experience Requirements:

0-3 years of experience in a related role or relevant academic qualifications.

Necessary Competencies:

Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment. Must be capable of sitting, walking, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods, as well as performing general office tasks for 5-8 hours daily.
