Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the role involves executing a diverse range of electromechanical and mechanical assembly tasks to construct intricate instruments. Responsibilities may include wiring, preparing, and installing cable harnesses, as well as mixing and processing raw materials to produce final products.

Key Responsibilities:

Assembly Duties:

  • Conduct various assembly tasks requiring proficiency in assembly techniques, tools, materials, and machinery.
  • Assemble electromechanical devices or fabricated components into subassemblies or complete instruments utilizing hand tools, power tools, and specialized calibration equipment.
  • Determine assembly methods and sequences when complete information is not available, or adhere to assembly guidelines, wire lists, samples, blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions.
  • Fit, align, calibrate, and adjust components to meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, and directives from the Lead Assembler or Supervisor.
  • Perform quality inspections during and after assembly to ensure product integrity.
  • Review drawings and work orders to ascertain required tasks.
  • Utilize appropriate machinery and tools for installation, fastening, aligning, and adjusting components and wiring.
  • Assess assembly procedures and documentation, suggesting revisions as necessary.
  • Replace components and repair wiring circuits as needed.
  • Train new employees and colleagues to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Inspect and test assemblies at various production stages to identify and rectify errors.
  • Maintain accurate records of the assembly process, including progress and challenges encountered.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding deviations from standard practices or safety concerns.
  • Employ small hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, and screwdrivers.
  • Select components for integration into assembly units.
  • Conduct setups, alignments, and adjustments while adhering to specified tolerances.
  • Disassemble, modify, refurbish, and test instruments as required.
  • Clean and prepare molds for fixtures and products.
  • Mix and process gels in a laboratory setting.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and recommend improvements in methods and procedures within the assigned area.
  • Perform data entry related to work-in-process transactions and parts ordering.
  • Encourage teamwork and maintain a positive work environment across departments.
  • Train new team members on documentation processes during production runs.
  • Continuously seek improvements in work processes and techniques.
  • Ensure laboratory and assembly areas are organized and functional.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, Lead Assemblers, and Supervisors.
  • Participate in meetings and task force groups as required.
  • Collaborate with Support Engineering to establish and maintain time standards.
  • Assist Support Engineering in designing assemblies for manufacturability.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned by Supervisors or Lead Assemblers.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

Experience & Skills:

  • 4-6 years of assembly experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and assembling wire harnesses is essential.
  • Able to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and engineering documents.
  • Competent in basic arithmetic and able to perform calculations involving rates and ratios.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and adapting to varied situations.
  • Ability to use standard power tools and custom assembly fixtures.
  • Physical capability to lift 25 to 50 pounds.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is advantageous.
  • Ability to meet production timelines and project deadlines.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma and/or lean manufacturing principles is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Ability to work safely with hazardous equipment and materials.
  • Capable of handling volatile chemicals in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple work pressures effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Regular use of hands for dexterity is required.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms frequently.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.
