Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under general oversight, this role involves a diverse range of electromechanical and mechanical assembly tasks aimed at constructing intricate instruments. Responsibilities include utilizing techniques for wiring, preparing, and installing cable harnesses, as well as mixing and processing raw materials to produce final products.

Key Responsibilities:

Assembly Duties:

  • Execute various assembly tasks while applying knowledge of techniques, tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Assemble electromechanical devices or components into subassemblies or complete instruments using hand tools, power tools, and specialized calibration equipment.
  • Determine assembly methods and sequences when full information is not available, following production sheets, wire lists, blueprints, and verbal instructions.
  • Fit, align, calibrate, and adjust components to meet product specifications and quality standards.
  • Work from engineering drawings, sketches, and instructions provided by supervisors.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections of assembled products to ensure quality.
  • Review drawings and work orders to identify required tasks.
  • Utilize appropriate tools and machinery for installation and adjustment of components and wiring.
  • Assess assembly procedures and suggest improvements as necessary.
  • Replace components and repair wiring circuits as needed.
  • Provide training to new hires and colleagues to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Inspect and test assemblies at various production stages to identify issues.
  • Maintain records of assembly processes, progress, and challenges.
  • Communicate deviations from standard practices or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Employ hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, and screwdrivers effectively.
  • Select components for integration into assembly units.
  • Perform setups, alignments, and adjustments while adhering to specified tolerances.
  • Disassemble, modify, refurbish, and test instruments as required.
  • Clean and prepare molds for fixtures and products.
  • Mix and process gels in a laboratory setting.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to methods and procedures within the assigned area.
  • Input data regarding work-in-process and parts ordering.
  • Encourage teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Train new team members on documentation procedures during production.
  • Seek continuous improvement in work processes and techniques.
  • Ensure that laboratory and assembly areas are organized and functional.
  • Maintain effective communication with peers and supervisors.
  • Participate in meetings and collaborative groups as necessary.
  • Assist engineering teams in developing and maintaining time standards.
  • Support engineering in designing assemblies for manufacturability.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

Experience & Skills:

  • 4-6 years of assembly experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and assembling wire harnesses is essential.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and engineering documents.
  • Mathematical skills for basic calculations and data interpretation.
  • Problem-solving skills in diverse situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to use standard power tools and calibration equipment.
  • Capability to lift 25 to 50 pounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to meet production timelines and project deadlines.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma and lean manufacturing principles is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Ability to work safely with hazardous equipment and materials.
  • Capability to handle volatile chemicals in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple work pressures effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity for tool use and assembly tasks.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, and reaching.
