Position Title: Environmental Health and Safety Manager
Type: Full-Time
Overview:
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will oversee the implementation and management of comprehensive environmental health and safety (EH&S) programs. This role collaborates with various departments and external partners to enhance workplace safety and ensure preparedness in EH&S matters. The manager will develop, maintain, and promote essential policies, procedures, and training to foster a safe and healthy environment for all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local EH&S regulations and standards, while minimizing institutional risks.
- Assist personnel in understanding EH&S plans and guidelines, conducting inspections and audits, and implementing corrective actions.
- Provide training and outreach programs in areas such as laboratories, offices, and construction sites.
- Manage environmental and safety concerns related to construction projects and coordinate assessments of indoor air quality.
- Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of various EH&S programs, revising them as necessary.
- Coordinate training for staff and maintain documentation related to training requirements.
- Oversee compliance with wastewater discharge permits and maintain necessary documentation for EH&S programs.
- Chair the Safety Committee, collaborating with key stakeholders to address safety concerns and compliance issues.
- Work with academic and administrative departments to assess EH&S risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Represent the organization in interactions with regulatory agencies and ensure appropriate responses to any concerns or findings.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and have at least three years of experience in managing EH&S programs. A background in environmental science or industrial engineering is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with technology systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions in critical situations.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
Working Conditions:
This position may require frequent outdoor work in various weather conditions and the ability to respond to emergency situations. The candidate should be prepared for occasional physical activity and extended periods of computer use.
