Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will oversee the implementation and management of comprehensive environmental health and safety (EH&S) programs. This role is essential in collaborating with various departments and external contractors to enhance workplace safety and ensure EH&S readiness, while also developing, maintaining, and promoting policies and training to foster a safe environment for all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations, while actively minimizing institutional risk.
  2. Assist personnel in understanding EH&S policies and guidelines, conducting inspections and audits, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  3. Provide training and outreach in areas such as laboratories, offices, and construction sites to promote safety awareness.
  4. Manage safety concerns related to construction projects and coordinate assessments of indoor air quality.
  5. Implement and oversee various EH&S programs, including emergency action plans, hazard communication, and waste management protocols.
  6. Maintain accurate documentation and records related to EH&S activities, including permits, training records, and safety data sheets.
  7. Lead the College Safety Committee, collaborating with key stakeholders to address safety concerns and compliance issues.
  8. Work with academic and administrative departments to assess and mitigate EH&S risks.
  9. Represent the organization in interactions with regulatory agencies, ensuring appropriate responses to any concerns or citations.
  10. Conduct regular inspections of hazardous waste areas and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in managing EH&S programs. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse groups. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a solid understanding of safety regulations are required.

Working Conditions

This position may involve frequent outdoor work in various weather conditions and may require physical activity such as lifting and climbing. Flexibility and adaptability to changing environments are important for success in this role.
