DEPARTMENT: SECURITY SERVICES

REPORTING TO: SECURITY MANAGER

COMPENSATION: $24 PER HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Security Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing various specialized tasks and security operations within a shelter environment. This position primarily serves single male clients and is accountable to the Security Manager. A COVID-19 vaccination proof is mandatory for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide training to new security personnel on all operational aspects of the facility.
  • Oversee and assign duties to Security Staff Officers, drivers, and kitchen personnel during scheduled shifts.
  • Manage access control systems, ensuring proper utilization of security equipment such as magnetometers and x-ray machines.
  • Address incidents effectively, employing crisis management techniques to safeguard both staff and clients.
  • Conduct regular patrols throughout the facility and surrounding areas to identify and mitigate potential hazards, unauthorized individuals, and illegal activities.
  • Respond to emergencies on-site, offering direction and support to team members and subordinates.
  • Prepare and submit monthly security documentation.
  • Generate incident reports and distribute them as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records in CARES and adhere to Westhab protocols.
  • Assist in coordinating the presence of emergency services such as EMS and NYPD.
  • Perform daily inspections of security and fire safety systems.
  • Assume responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor in their absence.
  • Adjust staff schedules in response to unexpected absences or staffing needs.
  • Ensure the safety and security of both clients and staff members.
  • Provide crisis intervention support when required.
  • Support the Security Manager in organizing and executing fire drills.
  • Review log entries and incident reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with administrative duties during shifts.
  • Participate in and lead various meetings and training sessions as necessary.
  • Conduct daily inventory checks of assigned equipment and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Carry out all related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess an Associate's Degree in social services, criminology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. A valid New York State Security Guard License, Fire Guard License (F-80 or F-89), and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) are required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of security systems, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills based on factual information. Familiarity with video surveillance and fire detection systems is essential. The Security Shift Supervisor must have access to a personal vehicle and be knowledgeable about public transportation. A home phone number is required. Flexibility in availability is necessary, along with familiarity with shelter operations and knowledge of CARES and DHS protocols.
